I posted a blog recently – a well-crafted message of sympathy and compassion for Kimberley’s fashion chain when it went into receivership after three decades in business. I called for people to support the fashion retailers that are battling every day, keeping shopping malls alive, and allowing New Zealand women to indulge in their favourite pastime of retail therapy.
But a certain section of our readers has not managed to look past the title of the blog – and decided that Annah Stretton is closing down. Unfortunately it would appear that the old adage is true – ‘Nothing travels faster than the speed of light, with the possible exception of bad news.’
We are left reeling in shock – how did it happen that so many can read a message that was carefully designed to be a rallying call for women to keep shopping, and somehow get the impression that we are closing down? It is patently clear that readers obviously did not understand what they read, and then suddenly become authorities on the meaning behind the blog.
Smart people would have questioned before they repeated what they thought, smarter people would have read the entire article, and realised the true message. But unfortunately for us, there is no accountability for the propagators and broadcasters of ‘fake news.’
So, I’d like to set the record straight, and tell all our devoted followers of Annah Stretton Fashion that rumours of our demise are greatly exaggerated! Having just released summer 17/18, our production team are working industriously designing for winter 2018- and it is going to be fabulous!
