Adrienne

Manager, Cambridge

How long have you worked for Stretton Clothing?
I started working for Stretton Clothing in May 2019, when the gorgeous new store in Cambridge opened.

What first attracted you to work at Annah Stretton?
After more than 20 years in my previous career and a move from Auckland to Cambridge, I really felt that a change in direction was what I needed. The part time position in the new store was advertised in Cambridge and I really loved the idea of working for Annah Stretton, many times I would walk past the Auckland store and fall in love with the designs, and wished I didn’t have to wear a uniform. Although my background was not in fashion or retail, I am so grateful that Annah took a chance on me...I love going into the store and meeting and dressing some amazing women.

What do you love most about your job?
There’s so much to love, I get to work in a gorgeous store, surrounded by amazing clothes, work with incredible and supportive people and meet some amazing women with amazing stories. The highlight for me is when a lady comes in and says β€œoh you’d have nothing for me” and they walk out with a gorgeous outfit and equally gorgeous smile because we found something that suited their body shape, and I’ve been able to work with them to find that special outfit.

What’s the funniest /strangest experience you’ve had while working here?
Before Stretton opened in Cambridge our store was a Barbers. For the first few months we would have lots of older gentlemen walk in, look confused and walk out again. One day a gentleman and his wife walked in, walked out, walked in again and asked if I could give him a haircut! I said that I couldn’t but I could sell his wife a dress...which I did. They are frequent visitors to the store and they still laugh about it saying it was the β€œmost expensive haircut he’d had”.

What do you like to do outside of work?
Life is pretty busy revolving around my kids...mum taxi. But as a family we like to go to the beach, walk our dog, travel and spend time with friends.

If you weren’t working at Annah Stretton what would you most like to do?
Party planner! I’ve loved planning my children’s birthday parties over the years...so much fun.

What is something that most people would be surprised to know about you?
That I was a Charge Nurse Manager for 9 years with 20+ staff reporting to me on a busy surgical ward, and that I presented a paper at a nurses conference in Chicago.
