Meet Our Senior Team

Work with  us ..

The Stretton Clothing Company has been a leading brand in the New Zealand fashion market for over 24 years. We started in Morrinsville in 1992, and our head office is still based there. We have over 25 retail stores throughout New Zealand and employ close to 100 people each day in part time, casual, contract and full time positions.

We have a huge philanthropic heart that pumps through the company’s operations every day, and we have massive collaborations and alignments supporting a variety of charities, both local and national. These include the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation, SPCA, SAFE, the Asthma Foundation, Child Cancer and many more. Annah also chairs the Waikato Women’s Refuge board and is a board member of UNICEF.

Late in 2013 Annah set up her own foundation and started her first charitable initiative - RAW (Reclaim Another Woman.) The main focus for RAW is to drive very real outcomes for socially disadvantaged women and leave a legacy for New Zealand that goes well beyond the frocks. RAW is largely funded from the profits of the Stretton Clothing Company Ltd.

Employment success with us requires some very real attributes…

Retail Stores

Our retail team have been a stable and high achieving work force for many years, and some of our team members are doing extremely well financially, simply by being very good at what they do.

Annah has always created a platform of entrepreneurship that enables team members to run stores and achieve exponential outcomes, supported by the SCCL infrastructure.  Many of our senior managers have been trained as stylists and event managers, and get involved in this each and every day.

We know that today’s retail outcomes need a lot more than simply standing behind a counter hoping to sell, and we are always looking for great retail people that fit our brand model - in fact we believe that we could place a store anywhere in NZ and achieve success, should we find staffing that fits our criteria.  Our Hokitika store is a strong example of this.

Retail is totally dependent on the person that front faces the model, where a high level of ownership, customer connection and brand knowledge is needed to get real success.  We will always look to advance a great employee, no matter where they start with us - effort, passion and outcomes will never be unnoticed by this organisation, and there are always opportunities for growth and a great employee will often create their own.

Retail team members earn a strong base rate, with a very real weekly bonus that can be as high as an extra $600.  Some employees have clothing allowances and clothing can also be bought at wholesale. Our top retail people have been earning gross incomes of $70 to $90k pa. They are, however, very good at what they do, and have created high achieving collaborative stores that they run as if they owned them.

Head Office in Morrinsville

Up to thirty people work at Head Office in a variety of roles. We employ staff for our cafe, retail store, distribution, production, events, design, administration, graphic and digital sections. Management of each division operates with a strongly led team.

Morrinsville is 20 minutes from Hamilton or 1.5 hours from Auckland so it is an easy commute, although a lot of our team also live locally in Morrinsville and Te Aroha. They love the affordability and the value that is delivered by real estate here.

Annah knows that the success of her company is solely dependent on the team members that she employs, and the nurturing and training program that is applied from the start of their employment with SCCL.

The company is going through an exciting rebranding and digital expansion stage, going from strength to strength and is an exciting and rewarding place to work.

We are always looking for great people to advance the brand vision and strengthen the financial outcomes, so if you are considering a career move and love this brand and all that it stands for send us an email…

How long have I been with Annah Stretton?

Since I first joined the team in 2007 I've talked with a mass of women. We've laughed and cried together and I've learnt from them all.

What did I do before working for Annah Stretton?

In the past I've had some fabulous jobs, but none have allowed me to be just exactly who I want to be before. The progress path with my current job has been fantastic for me with events and personal growth encouraged by Annah directly.

This job has never been easy. I work hard and at times don't have enough hands to do everything I want, but the personal rewards have always made it worthwhile.

I've worked all over the country in our many stores and have had the privilege of meeting with and working alongside some great personalities.

Why do I love my job?

Clothes and shaping a woman’s look are an obsession of mine which I get to indulge daily. The weekly stock box is like treasure chest to be explored. And best yet I get to be a part of the development in the clothes and feel of the company.

What are my ambitions within the company?

There is still much more to do, I watch the business plan grow daily and I feel privileged to be a part of it.

“Rose not only has an incredible knowledge for the Annah Stretton ranges, she told me what colours would suit me, what style would suit my body shape she told me how to accessorise my dress, right down to the fabulous fascinator and flower brooch I purchased in the store.

Belinda Sherriff, Senior Stylist and Events Manager

Annah Stretton - Takapuna

How long have you worked for Stretton Clothing?

 Since 2005

What did you do before working for Stretton Clothing?

I have done a wide range of things over the years including hairdressing, beauty therapy, body piercing and cooking. I am also a mother of two wonderful children.

Why you love your job?

When people ask me if I could choose any career in the world, what would it be... I can honestly say I am already doing my dream job. I started with this company as the manager of the Whitianga store and moved up to the inaugural role of Australia senior manager which involved opening stores and executing expos all over Australia. I have even had the opportunity to travel to London in 2010 to attend and run an expo with Annah which was a huge highlight and an amazing experience.

I wake up everyday excited about going to work, meeting new people and making them feel amazing when I dress them.

I love working for Annah as I am constantly learning from a great and passionate businesswoman and leader.

What are your amibitions within the company?

I would love to be an Annah Stretton stylist working all over the world dressing women in our beautiful clothes. I want to be a huge part of Stretton Clothing moving forward globally into new and exciting ventures. The sky really is the limit.

“Belinda was great - so helpful and friendly - and despite having just returned from a holiday in Akld where I spent about $1,000 on clothes at your Ponsonby & Newmarket stores I still managed to spend just under $1200 again today (I was only going in for the Secret Admirer Top!)”

Tanya Smith, Senior Manager - Birds of A Feather Tauranga

With our fantastic stores all over New Zealand and in Australia, the brand is going global and there are very exciting times ahead. What better time to change your career path.
We have great opportunities and would love to hear from you!

Angela Gilmour, Senior Manager, Christchurch Store Manager, Company Stylist

How long have I been with Annah Stretton?

Since 2009 - based in Christchurch.

What did I do before working for Annah Stretton?

I created my own jewellery in my teens and then started my own clothing company which I had for 20 years. I have two gorgeous children, one of whom works for Stretton Clothing.

Why do I love my job?

I have learned more working for Annah than I had in the 20 years owning my own company. I have an absolute passion for clothes. I love the challenge of making the everyday woman look like a goddess! The uniqueness of the Annah Stretton garments makes my job so easy and the excitement the women feel when they realise just how good they look is intoxicating.

What are my ambitions within the company?

After the Christchurch earthquake a lot changed here, not just my surroundings, but my life as a whole. A new home, a new work location for a while, and new relationships. It's fabulous having the new location on Colombo Street back as Annah's flagship store once again. I love the overseas expos and fashion week, there's never a dull moment.

"I walked into your Christchurch shop yesterday, and because of your absolutely fantastic Lady Angela  - I walked out with the Didion Wedding Dress. PLUS I already have a Wedding Dress, so I really was not even contemplating looking.  But Angela , suggested I should try a dress on – then styled me completely - absolutely fantastic!! You have a real gem in her. Don't get me wrong your dresses are absolutely beautiful, but no way would I have ever dreamt of purchasing a dress from your store.  It is because Angela taking the time, and styling the outfit, that I bought the dress. She is a Star!"

Faith Davidson, Senior Manager - Newmarket

How long have you worked for Stretton Clothing? I have been a part of the 'Talented Stretton Team' for just over three years and a half years.

What first attracted you to work at Annah Stretton?

I had always wanted to work in a Boutique Retail Environment but more importantly to work for someone who would be a great mentor and also knowing that there would be a endless Network of Support from Head Office right down to Store Level.

What has surprised you most about working at Annah Stretton?

My own Personal growth ( I thought I already knew how to sell having been in Retail Industry for a number of years) by simply understanding Women’s  Body Shapes  has empowered me to sell with a much greater confidence.

What do you love most about your job?

The versatility of working in my store and the capability of helping   with the Visual Merchandising in some of the Auckland Stores. I love this with a PASSION!

What’s been your biggest learning and/or achievement since working at Annah Stretton?

Just this year in fact, at the Howick Village Best Business Awards

Highly Commended for both ‘Best Retail Business’ and

 Highly Commended for BEST EMPLOYEE!

What’s the funniest /strangest experience you’ve had while working here?

Served a lady, wrapped her purchases in tissue, handed her the bag having walked around the counter and to the door, only THEN did she realise while looking quizzically at the bag, she then proceeded to say  to me ‘Oh I thought I was in an Alannah Hill store how silly of me! That was a real “should have gone to Spec Savers moment”!

What do you like to do outside of work?

Day Trips when possible out of Auckland in our ’59 Plymouth Fury’ ( Real American Car ).

If you weren’t working at Annah Stretton what would you most like to do?

I have always wanted to be an Event Planner ie Weddings, Parties or Big Events. I would be in my Element!

What is something that most people would be surprised to know about you?

A Skiing Holiday away, doesn’t matter where in the world, it would be absolutely wasted on me. I  HATE the SNOW!!!

“Faith, What a fantastic, friendly, approachable & vibrant woman she is (was like catching up with a long lost friend however I had never met her before!) Showed me how to wrap & rosette my Chameleon dress & also gave me fantastic new ideas with accessories to really personalise my look.”

Senior Stylist Isobel Devereux  Manager - Annah Stretton Christchurch

How long have you worked for Annah Stretton?

I have been with the company since 2009. Though I started as the 'Sunday Girl' and filling in, in the school holidays before I proved my worth and took up a full time position in 2010/2011.

What did you do before working for Annah Stretton?

I was a passionate art and design student at High School in Christchurch before I started working for Annah full time. l completed my final year and got into a competitive art and design course. Though when a full time positon arose in our Christchurch, High Street store I decided that I would take it, as not every 18 yr old gets offered a full time position in an amazing designers flagship store.

Why do you love your job?

I love my job because I get to be creative (and play dress-ups) all day every day. Making women look amazing and feel beautiful, creating the best possible experience and service for everyone who walks in the door. Being able to educate women on how to dress for their body shape, giving them more then just beautiful bags of clothing to take away. I also love the ever changing challenges, goals and possibilities there are for me in Stretton Clothing. Like forever growing sales targets, being able to travel around the country and work in our other stores and the ability to throw out an idea and then see it come to fruition.

What are my ambitions within the company?

I have many! I would love to manage my own thoroughly sucessful store. Have an active part in the design-side of the company both clothing design and graphic design. Eventually I would love to have a senior role training our new staff and travelling all around the world with our fantastic brand.

"A week ago my mother and myself went into the Annah Stretton store in Christchurch, in desperate need of a "mother of the bride dress". We had looked high and low without any luck. We were greeted by the gorgeous Isobel! Her  confidence, wit, articulation and eye for detail made the retail experience the best I have ever encountered. My mother had a fabulous time and now is the happy owner of a fabulous dress!
Whenever my mother has the chance she raves about the boutique and it's fabulous service! A very big thank you, Amy x"

Jacqui Roy - Manager, Havelock North

How long have you worked for Stretton Clothing?

I have been a part of the Stretton sisterhood since December 2014 -  first as a part timer, then being promoted to Manager in September 2015.

What first attracted you to work at Annah Stretton?

The stunning clothes of course!

What has surprised you most about working at Annah Stretton?

How incredibly different working for Annah is from any other retail I've ever done. The training we get is second to none, we really learn about how to make each and every woman shine.

What do you love most about your job?

My favourite part is definitely that I get to spend making other women look and more importantly feel beautiful. The friendships that I've built with many of these women are an added bonus.

What’s been your biggest learning and/or achievement since working at Annah Stretton?

My biggest achievement without a doubt has been being promoted to manager of the stunning wee Havelock North store.  It’s such a delight to work in such a lovely environment each day.

What’s the funniest /strangest experience you’ve had while working here?

It’s way too hard to pick any one experience - we have such a fun atmosphere here in the shop that we often end up in hysterics with our customers.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I spend time with my adorable wee son Marty, my stunning Greyhound Bea, and out and about with friends in my beloved Hawkes Bay. Even better when great food and wine are added into the mix!

If you weren’t working at Annah Stretton what would you most like to do?

Prior to having Marty I taught sexuality education with Family Planning - if I wasn't with Annah I'd love to do something similar again.

What is something that most people would be surprised to know about you?

To be honest nothing would surprise people who know me well, but I'll say that my first career was in sports massage, and that I specialised in the heavier end of sports.

Tina Gilsenan Manager - Annah Stretton Whitianga

How long have you worked for Annah Stretton?

I joined the Annah S team in November 2012.

What did you do before working for Annah Stretton?

I have held a variety of positions in the Retail and Fashion Industries both in New Zealand and overseas prior to relocating to the Coromandel Peninsula with my husband and daughter 18 years ago.

This was a huge lifestyle change living in a remote coastal area, gravel roads, no supermarkets and cooking on a wood stove! Hence the career went on hold and employment skills such as pumping gas and rolling ice creams were learnt. I’ve assisted my husband in establishing our thriving Bicycle Shop in Whitianga and for the past five years have managed a small fashion boutique.

Why do you love your job?

Challenges, opportunities, passion, integrity, variation, incentives, professionalism, positive environment, great team, massive support.

What are my ambitions within the company?

Working for an employer with passion, motivation and vision provide limitless career opportunities.
I want to accept all challenges, take advantage of all opportunities and investigate all possibilities.

Lisa Johnson  Manager - Annah S Otaki

How long have I been with Annah Stretton?

Since 2007  What a whirlwind! Since arriving in NZ my life has gone from moving to  paradise, to working with one of NZ 's key designers.  You could say I've done it all from managing a pub, nursing to Real Estate,  to name a few. Six years later, I can safely say thanks to Annah Stretton I  have acquired skills in areas I never thought possible.

Why do I love my job!

Yes, it's a job but, its not its more than that. I can't even put my passion  into words I just LOVE my work. I can be dressing local mum or a top  corporate exec one day, and the next, one of NZs leading columnists - my  list of celebs is a "who's who". No two days are ever the same. The  opportunities are endless ranging from overseas trips to America, Japan,  UK and Oz to Fashion Shows and Expos around the country.  Annah Stretton is a legend. She is a straight shooting kind-a-girl. What you  see is what you get. She's a strong, hard working woman, who isn't afraid  to step into our shoes. Don't be surprised to find her working alongside  girls in her shops around NZ. And, she is only a phone call away if you  need her for whatever reason.

“I must tell you that your team were wonderful. I was the 'spare', but I never felt in the way, "they gave me a seat" and chatted while my friend tried on a series of dresses from your chameleon range,  all the time being very attentive to her needs - Thanks Lis
