Get your motor runnin'…
Annah Stretton Summer 2009 is unleashing the lawless radical within, The Boy I Left Behind - a collection of distinctly feminine pieces with a sharp edge for those who were ‘Born to be Wild.’ Head out on the highway… The Boy I Left Behind captures the beloved summer road trips of our youth. Rocking to Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones - the uncontested music legends of summer - driving with the top down, wild hair whipping across black Ray Ban sunglasses; screaming down the scorching roads of a State Highway with an ungoverned ambition to reach your goal. Destination… irrelevant! All that matters is that you’re dressed to kill and you’re not going to let anything or anyone stop you make your move. Take the world in a love embrace… Accelerate with injections of colour - turquoise, yellow and orange, pink and purple. Classic blacks and whites feature in the collection in chequered flag form. Racy layers of mesh and silk in fitted bustiers with flowing skirts make a statement in lingerie dresses. Fire all your guns at once… This collection is about reclaiming that sense of freedom lost in the breakdowns of life. We celebrate fabrics that allow your body to breathe in the hot months of the New Year. On cool nights under a star-studded-sky, throw over a leather jacket and ride your Harley like there’s no tomorrow. As with every season, Annah’s love of colour, texture and attention to detail is evident. Garments are classically cut and collections always feature gorgeous dresses and great separates. The Boy I Left Behind is for the woman who is fiercely independent. She makes up her own mind; knows her own style and will never let anyone tell her otherwise. Reviews for Annah Stretton's Summer 09 Collection The Boy I Left Behind...Annah Stretton opened the show, and with a collection that was as exciting as this, I wouldn't of minded if Annah Stretton was the only label showing! Soft pinks, ultra-femme detail (yes more ruffles- are we seeing a trend here?) adorned floating, youthful dresses, contrasted against biker-chic accessories. Black leather gloves, and black biker jackets worked so well with the lighter colour palette and delicate detail of the garments, all topped off with a serving of hard edged heels. - jennalee, www.2threads.com After Annah Stretton's change of direction at last year’s RAFW, Kate McGahan was keen to see what the designer would send down the runway for next Spring/Summer... Yet again, I was pleasantly surprised by what Annah Stretton showed. It must be said however that this is a very safe collection - there is no stepping outside the square (to be fair, she did show in the ready-to-wear group show so perhaps this is the reason). Styled by top New Zealand stylist Karen Inderbitzen-Waller the collection was a mixture of sweet pastel chiffons, rock 'n' roll tailoring, pretty architectural layering and well-cut block coloured frocks - with fabulous leathers from Harley-Davidson thrown in to mix things up. Lingerie cut bodices added a little bit of Madonna and the empire line dresses in blush toned chiffon with layered skirts looked perfect under tough leather. I was happy to see the most fabulous purple hue come down the catwalk - am glad to see the purple trend will be carrying on into next season. Watermelon red also made a feature appearance in simple, ruffled party dresses. The only aspect of the collection I didn't like was the appearance of black and white checkerboard jackets and skirt - a print that was spoiled by chain stores a very long time ago. For a (20-something) girl who has always thought of Annah Stretton as a label more suited to my mother, this was a collection that I found very relevant to my own lifestyle and there was very little I wouldn't wear. - Kate McGahan Annah Stretton was the first to grace the catwalks in this group show - and the first kiwi at this year’s RAFW - quite proud I was! Her Spring Summer collection entitled "The Boy I Left Behind" was a mix of delicate tulles in soft pinks, hot pinks, leather, chains, fingerless gloves, and tassles. Delicate with attitude... Left with "Teenage Kicks right through the night" playing in my head! - Aychblog.com New Zealand label Annah Stretton has a ballet look mixed with boyish shoes and Oyster notes the reoccurrence of dusty pink shades throughout almost all the shows so far. - Oystermag.com Surprise of the day - and it's always nice to have a surprise – was… Annah Stretton at the Ready-To-Wear 1 show. Stretton furthered the trend towards muted mushroom and sky shades. - Thevine.com.au The one collection that stood out for me was NZ designer Annah Stretton, whose summer dresses look to be a winner. - Caroline Warnes, Lasso.com.au Annah Stretton… cultivated old school glamour with the [designer sending] vibrant bikey ballerina’s down the runway. - Yenmag.net Annah Stretton showed some cute leather lace looks in nudes and black with a biker vintage feel… - Grazia |
